Brilliant Birch

Welcome to Birch Class

Miss Burgess teaches on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning and Mrs Lunt teaches on a Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday.

In English this term, we will be looking at all things space! We will explore fiction and non-fiction books, such as Aliens Love Underpants, UFO Diary and Come to Tea on Planet Zee. We will help a lost alien who has crash landed on our playground by designing a rocket, writing instructions and writing letters to find out about her home planet. We will also pretend to be mini astronauts to help us write a diary entry about the feelings and experiences astronauts may have when mission control begin their countdown. Finally, we will write our own adventure tale about a trip to planet Rox.

We will be exploring our own planet in Geography. We will look at continents and oceans around the world and improve our map reading skills. We will continue to compare the human and physical features of different continents and countries around the world.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel is our focus for history this term. We will be learning all about his engineering triumphs, creating fact files and making timelines. We will also become engineers ourselves to design and build a spacecraft to return our lost alien to her home planet.

In Science, we will be looking at Mini Beasts, habitats and looking closely with magnifying glasses and microscopes. This will be linked with our weekly visit to Forest School.
